Photos
As you know, we had a group of students from Sheldon Williams Collegiate taking photographs at this year's race and we all enjoyed seeing the results of their work at the Brunch. We DO plan to make the photos available, via website, to our runners and walkers, but since this is learning experience for some new photographers, they have asked for a chance to do some cropping and colour correction on their pix. We hope to have a link to photos up on this website soon!

The Weather...
Really...we don't control it, so why ask? Instead look at it this way: you can dress for it and once you start to walk or run, your body will be at the perfect temperature. Here's another thought: even in cool weather with a possibility of rain, you have a hundred volunteers who are going to brave the conditions and do their best to give you a great RPS Half Marathon experience. How nice is that? So plan for it, dress for it and give the volunteers a nod and a smile on your way by. Thanks!

Race Day Road Closures and Parking at the University
We are SO lucky that we have been able to close down the roads around the Start/Finish area. This will mean you can focus on your run/walk without worrying about incoming and outgoing traffic. But it also means you cannot park at the Canada Games Athletic Complex (Douglas Park Track).
Please, please, note the following:
McDonald Street will be closed to southbound traffic at Wascana Drive. (Wascana Drive can still be accessed eastbound and westbound) .
Park Street will be closed for southbound traffic at Douglas Avenue.
(Douglas Avenue can still be accessed eastbound and westbound)
The north ramp off of Ring Road onto Assiniboine Avenue will be closed.
Traffic will be reduced to one lane (left lane) for northbound traffic on Wascana Parkway from the north entrance to Conexus Arts Center to Wascana Drive.
One of the options for race day parking is at the University of Regina, at Lot 17. See the map of Lot 17 here. You can take a free shuttle bus to the Start area. See the bus schedule here. Otherwise, there are options for parking within walking distance of the Start/Finish area, but you must park legally and safely; no blocking driveways, alleys, fire hydrants etc.

At the Risk of Repeating...
We know you've got a lot to think about as the race approaches (we do, too), so we don't mind repeating some important details. If you have bought a registration from someone else and want us to change the database (so that it's your name, and not your friend's name in the race results) please open the Race Database Change Form. Print it, fill it out and bring it with you to Package Pick-up. Be patient; it will take a few minutes for the form to download. We will also have some forms available at Package Pick-up but if you do this now, you can avoid waiting in another line. This form will also be required for changes to relay team members, from runner to walker, etc. If you request a change to the race database, we collect a $10.00 change fee. Thanks!

You're putting the finishing touches on your training. We're putting the finishing touches on your race experience. Isn't this exciting?
As you know, this is the first year we haven't kept a waiting list. Instead we've asked buyers and sellers to contact each other through facebook: either on our event page or through their own networks of fb friends. Print it, fill it out and bring it with you to package pickup.

2) If you want to make a change to the race database, there is a $10.00 administration fee, payable at package pick-up; and
3) If you don't pay the change fee, we don't change the database and your bib number and chip are removed from eligibility for overall winner or age class prizes.
Package Pick-up is at Track & Trail, 4403 Albert Street; Friday April 27th from 12:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. and Saturday, April 28th from 9:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. There is no race-day package pick-up.

Not long now...shirts have arrived, timing chips are here; months of preparation (yours and ours) are drawing us ever nearer to Race Day. Hope your training has gone well.
Please note: there will be NO parking on race day at the Canada Games Athletic Complex (Douglas Park Track). Ch-ch-ch-ch-changes...
People are starting to contact us by e-mail to ask how to sell a registration. Please read below; the Regina Police Service Half Marathon Committee is not keeping a waiting list this year. In the spirit of simpler, more direct communication, we thought we'd put potential sellers and potential buyers together through our event page on facebook.
-
To those who want to buy a registration AND those who are looking to sell their registration, please go to our event page on our facebook account. Post your message. Get in touch, find your buyer/seller.
The RPS Half Marathon Committee will not handle your transactions. They occur directly between seller and buyer, but we do have some rules:
- The seller cannot increase the price of the registration.
The buyer picks up the race-kit at Track and Trail on April 27th or 28th. Bring an e-mail from the seller, so our volunteers know to allow the exchange.
- There is no change in the shirt size ordered by the original registrant.
- The database will not change, meaning the buyer’s name won’t be in the race results unless the buyer pays a $10.00 administration fee at package pickup .
- The buyer cannot compete for overall prizes or age-class prizes, unless the buyer pays for the change to the database described above (single fee).

Good Race Kits Make Happy Runners & Walkers
Good race kits make happy runners and walkers. In our quest to have the biggest, best race-kits ever, we are always looking for more great freebies and goodies to put into those bags! If you know of someone who wants to support healthy lifestyles AND promote their own business, please contact us. We have 850 participants registered this year (and we always create a few extra race-kits) so that generous individual or business would be asked to donate up to 900 items. In the past we've had hats, pens, bottled water, energy drinks, coffee and coupons in our race-kits. Hint: athletes love snacks, especially after running or walking 21.1 km. Contact us today.

Water Station / Old Shoes / Race Training
Water Station opportunity now closed. The RPS Half Marathon Committee has now received a number of applications from local sport and charity groups who want to staff our water stations. Thank you for your interest; this opportunity has now closed. To the groups who have signed on: congratulations! We will be working with you, and in touch with you, especially as we get closer to race day! We think this is a great opportunity to provide quality service to our runners and walkers and a great way for your group to benefit from a donation from the proceeds of the RPS Half Marathon.
Calling all old(er) shoes! We want your used running shoes, especially smaller (as in, kids' size) running shoes. We'll collect them and donate them to groups or individuals who have a need. Even if they are old shoes to you, they may still be able to help somebody on the road to a healthier lifestyle. Bring any used running shoes to race-kit pickup at Track & Trail and we will collect them. For every pair of used shoes, we will give you an entry form for a prize draw...the prize is, you guessed it, new shoes!
Be safe out there! The current temperatures are nice...the surface of roads and paths, not so much! If you are training outdoors, be careful! Happy training!

New in 2012! We've made some changes!
In 2012, we want to help out several local charities by offering each a chance to run a water station and earn an honorarium. If your group would like to be one of those recipients, check out the list of responsibilities by clicking here. If your group fits the requirements, print the application form, fill it out and mail it back to us at RPS Half Marathon Committee, P.O. Box 196, Regina, SK, S4P 2Z8. We will screen the applications and, from the list of those that meet the requirements, we will choose the participating groups on an application-first-received basis.
We also have a new, improved route - View The Map.
We have a new Start/Finish at the Canada Games Athletic Complex.
And we have a new location for the Post-Race Brunch: the Delta Regina Hotel at 1919 Saskatchewan Drive, Regina. Learn more on our F.A.Q. Page..

Race Co-Chairs’ Message
Funny how, as the calendar year ends, the RPS Half Marathon Committee starts getting revved up. We are well into meetings for the 2012 Regina Police Service Half Marathon – our ninth year - and there are some new and different things to talk about for the 2012 race. The first change is the date: we opted to go a week later in April, so this year’s race is the Sunday the 29th of April. (In theory, that should mean the weather is better, but it IS Saskatchewan, after all!)
Another big change for us this year is the course itself. For 2012, our Start/Finish line is at the Canada Games Complex on Assiniboine Avenue…Douglas Park. There are very few road races where you don’t encounter some vehicle traffic but we want to maximize safety by using more pathway and less roadway. Don’t worry: the course will still take runners and walkers through beautiful Wascana Centre and around the University of Regina.
The 2012 edition of the Regina Police Service Half Marathon is going to be a bigger race…literally! We will accept 850 participants for the 2012 event, up from the 700-person limit of previous years. Even so, we still expect the race to sell out; remember, last year’s race was full in an unprecedented eight days. So, make your New Year’s resolutions, dust off your training plans, contact your fellow runners, walkers and relay team members and sign up online!
This year, we won’t have a waiting list, but we will offer a Facebook forum where those who are registered-but-cannot-run can get together with those who want-to-run-but-aren’t-registered. Direct and simple. Our only rules: if you sell your race registration, you cannot sell it for more than you paid. If you buy someone else’s race registration, you will not be able to compete for overall or age-class prizes. There are no changes in shirt sizes; every participant will accept the shirt size ordered at the time of online registration.
We will be holding our fabulous post-race Brunch at the Delta Regina Hotel this year and, as always, will be offering our participants a hearty buffet featuring scrambled eggs, pan-fried potatoes, crispy bacon, grilled sausage, fresh croissants, fruit Danish, muffins, fresh fruit and assorted juices, teas and coffee. And, why not? You will have worked up an appetite.
Also, in keeping with past tradition of “new year, new look”, we have a new design for the 2012 race website. We are happy to welcome aboard a new sponsor, RWS - ReginaWebsites.com. Right now, you are admiring their in-kind sponsorship. By the way, if you’d like to see your own running photos in our website header, contact us. We’d love to feature you and your running friends on our site.
The Regina Police Service Half Marathon came out of the belief that our Police Service employees are in a position to be positive role models and leaders. We wanted to demonstrate our commitment to wellness and encourage others to make good choices by putting on a running/walking event to celebrate fitness and healthy living. And since 2004, the RPS Half Marathon has been a hit, thanks to our many volunteers, sponsors, participants and organizers. We’re so proud to invite you to be part of this race: run or walk with friends around beautiful Wascana Centre and the University of Regina; enjoy a fabulous post-race meal, celebrate each others’ achievements and have fun. You’re going to love this year’s race! Okay, we don’t control the weather, but we will put into action everything we have learned from organizing (and running) many races to help you have the best experience possible.
Register early! Happy training…see you at package pickup and then on race day, April 29th!
